Motorcars
Motorcars

I love motorcars, especially vintage motorcars. These photographs reflect my profound admiration for the artists who design, craftsman who build, and owners/caretakers who drive these enchanting machines. Motorcars are sculptures of arresting beauty. They radiate charisma. Their beauty is enhanced by the patina of time.

Classic Cycles
Classic Cycles

As a child, I must have been obsessed with tricycles and bicycles. As a vintage adult, I am still obsessed. Images of tricycles, bicycles, and vintage motorcycles hold endless fascination for me. There is something noble about these cycles. I want my images to honor their inner beauty and playful aura.

Working Boats
Working Boats

I see grace in every working boat. There is a quiet dignity about boats that work hard to provide for their caretakers. I make images of working boats to honor their purpose of earning a livelihood, their innate beauty and the colorful nature which surrounds them. Big, small, new, and old. I love all working boats.

Water Colors
Water Colors

Early morning light paints beautiful colors on the water. Maine light is especially pure, creating reflections which sometimes take your breath away. Capturing these watercolors is elusive. I try my best to do justice to these lovely early morning water paintings and the boats which bring them to life.

Forgotten Coast
Forgotten Coast

Apalachicola, Florida, feels like a place time has truly forgotten. No highrises, no malls, and no pretentions. The Forgotten Coast is home to beautiful, hard-working boats, endlessly fascinating people and places, and spellbinding natural beauty. Making images that do the Forgotten Coast justice is exceptionally hard. I keep trying.

Vietnam
Vietnam

Vietnam is a land of vibrant and enchanted color. Color tells a story; the story of people; the story of waterways and fishing; and the story of rich texture and the play of light on everyday scenes. I remember many beautiful things about Vietnam—color most of all.

Nature
Nature

Images of nature provide infinite possibilities. Making images of nature is infinitely challenging and, upon rare occasions, profoundly rewarding. Nature offers color palettes, designs, and stories waiting to become one of those rewarding images. Making a thousand nature images is easy. Making one that tells a story is a never ending quest.

Still Life
Still Life

Every so often I see an ordinary object of extraordinary beauty. Making images of these arresting objects is a passion. Seeing beauty in an unfolding flower is easy. Revealing beauty in a discarded lobster buoy, an old mitten, or a frozen weed is more challenging. On occasion, extra effort is rewarded with a memorable still life.

Portraits
Portraits

For many years, I was afraid to make pictures of people. Mostly, I was afraid that my images would not be equal to their beauty. I now try hard to affectionately present the beauty of friends and family. Sometimes I even make images of fascinating strangers or an incredibly cute pet. Portraits will always be a work in progress for me.

We all have our favorites. I am no exception. After making photographs for five decades, I still get very excited to look at each new image. I know instantly if it will be a new favorite. But I also know I will need to make a thousand new images before I see my next favorite.
